Data Retention
Last updated: August 25, 2026.
This policy explains the default retention periods for MemoirWell content, backups, operational logs and legally required records.
Our retention principles
We keep your personal data only as long as we need it to provide MemoirWell, and we give you direct control to export or delete it at any time. The defaults below apply unless the law requires us to keep something longer.
Recordings, transcripts and chapters
Your recordings, transcripts and generated chapters are kept until you delete them or close your account. You can export everything and delete any session's voice recording from the app whenever you like; to erase specific chapters or transcripts, email hello@memoirwell.com, or close your account to remove everything.
Closing your account
When you close your account we erase your memoir content within 30 days across our live systems. If you have a paid or in-progress print order, we retain only the order, delivery details, immutable approved print-proof files and provider history needed to fulfill and support it. Limited billing, tax, fraud-prevention, security or legal records may also be retained for the period required by law or needed to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
Database and private-file backups
Encrypted Postgres database backups and encrypted private-file backups (including recordings, photos and approved print-proof files) are retained for 14 days and then rotated out. Data you delete may persist in a backup until that backup expires, after which it is permanently gone.
Error and log events
Operational error and log events are scrubbed of personally identifiable information and kept for about 90 days to keep the service secure and reliable.
