A free genealogy worksheet
A family group sheet you can fill in and print.
Keep parents, children and the references behind their details together. Write what you know, mark what is uncertain, and leave room for the next record you find.
Two parent or adult records · Up to 20 children · Text download · Blank or filled browser printing · No account
One family group, with its sources beside it
Use a new sheet for another family group. Include approximate dates as approximate, and note whether a relationship is adoptive, step or otherwise needs explanation. The relationship label is yours to edit; the worksheet does not infer connections.
The U.S. National Archives provides blank genealogy forms, including a family group sheet. American Ancestors describes a family group sheet as a record of parents and children with details such as names, life events and relationships. This is an original MemoirWell worksheet, rather than a copy of those forms.
A small fictional example
Jo Example: born around 1938, town uncertain. Source: a family notebook, page 4; original date not checked. Child: Sam Example, who remembers a different town. Keep both notes and the question to check. A familiar surname alone does not establish a relationship.
Before you save your sheet
Is this a free printable family group sheet template?
Yes. It starts with two parent or adult records and two child records; add children up to twenty. An empty sheet prints spaces for those first four people. Filled copies keep both adult spaces and children with writing, skipping untouched extra children. All fields are optional.
How is this different from a family tree?
This worksheet records one family's details and sources. It is not a multi-generation diagram. Our separate family tree has seven fixed places across three generations. Neither tool searches records or verifies relationships.
Are my entries uploaded or saved?
They stay in this page's memory. There is no account, upload, autosave, AI processing or shared online family record. Refreshing or closing clears your entries. Download text or print first; share your saved copy yourself only with people you choose.
Can I print or continue later?
Print or save PDF opens your browser's print dialog. Choose Letter or A4 and check the preview; longer entries use more pages. Printing from the browser menu also works while editing. TXT saves your words but cannot be reopened here as a filled worksheet.
A name may lead to a small remembered scene
Save your family group sheet first. MemoirWell's separate guided interview can help develop your own memory into an AI-assisted draft chapter for you to check and edit. Your sheet is not transferred automatically.
