Getting the worksheet ready…
Write one small life story before a whole family history
Choose one ancestor or relative. Add the name you use and any dates you know; “around 1930” is a useful answer when an exact year is uncertain. Choose a section and write a few sentences. A source-only section is included too, so you can keep a useful record reference before the story is ready.
The Family Tree Magazine forms catalog includes an ancestor biographical outline for recording life events. FamilySearch’s life-history guidance describes a brief summary that can include milestones and family names. This page offers original MemoirWell prompts with a separate source and uncertainty field for each topic.
A fictional example
Homes and moves: Jo’s address appears in a 1940 directory. A family story says Jo moved there to be near Rosa, but the reason is not confirmed. Sources: Directory copy, Box B, page 42; conversation with Sam, date not recorded. Next question: Is there a letter that mentions the move?
Let the record say what it actually says
A document can place someone at an address without explaining how they felt about living there. Keep a remembered scene, an interpretation and a documented detail distinguishable. Write “according to Sam” when that is your source. Leave contradictory dates in the notes until you can check them; the worksheet does not decide which account is correct.
Before you save the biography
Is this a free printable ancestor biography template?
Yes. Fill in one person’s life across six topics. An entirely empty worksheet prints all six topics with handwriting lines. Filled copies include sections with story notes or sources and skip untouched topics. The name and dates are optional.
Does it search records or write a biography for me?
No. You write every sentence. The page does not search genealogy databases, infer missing dates, generate AI text or format formal source citations. It keeps your story notes and references together for review.
Where are my notes saved?
Only in this page’s memory. They are not uploaded or autosaved; refreshing or closing clears them. Download text or print before leaving. The downloaded TXT or PDF cannot be reopened as an editable worksheet here.
How do I print or save a PDF?
Print or save PDF opens your browser’s print dialog. Choose Letter or A4 and check the preview. Browser-menu printing works from the editor too. Long sections may continue onto another page; source labels keep the matching section number.
Do you remember a moment with this person?
Save the biography worksheet first. MemoirWell’s separate guided interview can help you develop your own memory into an AI-assisted draft chapter to check and edit. These biography notes are not transferred automatically.
