Getting the worksheet ready…
What goes into an obituary writing worksheet?
Begin with the information and memories you want this particular copy to hold. The Minnesota Star Tribune writing toolbox recommends gathering information before writing. Legacy’s obituary-template guide distinguishes a short announcement from a longer life-story format. This original worksheet gives you places for your notes and a final working draft; it does not reproduce either publisher’s template or examples.
Write a scene only this person could have left behind
A remembered action can say more than a general description. In a fictional note, Rosa remembers Jo pausing a porch repair to show a neighbor how to use the old hand drill. The note to check says: Ask Rosa which summer this was before including a year. Your own draft can keep the scene and leave the uncertain date out.
Keep the draft and the checks together
Use the last section to put the words you want into one working draft. The checks under each section stay in the exported worksheet, so an unfinished question is still visible. Before sharing a final copy elsewhere, confirm the names, dates and any gathering details you chose to include. Check the intended publication’s requirements directly; this worksheet does not submit a notice.
Before you save your worksheet
Is this a free printable obituary template?
Yes. You can print all six empty sections with handwriting lines, or type notes and your own draft. Filled copies include sections with words or checks and skip untouched sections. The final draft section allows up to 4,000 characters; the other sections allow 1,200 each.
Does it write or publish an obituary for me?
You write the words. The page does not generate AI text, search for facts, calculate dates, send a notice or publish anything. It prints and downloads the sections you entered, including their checks. Use a separate final copy if those working notes are not meant to be shared.
Do I have to complete every section?
No. Use the sections that fit the person and the copy you are preparing. A check without a finished paragraph is included too. The name and dates at the top are optional, and an unknown detail can stay blank.
Are the words saved automatically?
They stay only in this page’s memory and are not uploaded or autosaved. Refreshing or closing clears them. Download text or print before leaving. A downloaded text or PDF copy cannot reopen here as an editable worksheet.
Can I print from the editor or save a PDF?
Yes. Review my worksheet provides Print or save PDF; your browser’s print command works from the editor too. Check Letter or A4 in the preview. Long sections can continue onto another page, and check labels keep their section number. Clear and Undo affect only the selected section.
Keep a memory when you are ready
